Love Island has ignited another race row after four black contestants were the first to be eliminated from the dating show. On Tuesday's episode, Ikenna Ekwonna and Amber Beckford were voted out as the public's least favourite boy and girl, following the earlier departures of Afia Tonkmor and Remi Lambert, who failed to couple up.
Social media erupted with accusations of racism, with viewers noting that all four black islanders had been eliminated while white contestants remained. One Twitter user wrote: 'Love Island kicking off 4 black people back to back is a bit sus but okay.' Another said: 'Nah some racist s**t going on in love island right now with the votes.'
This controversy follows an earlier row at the start of the series, when the public vote paired the four black contestants together, leading to claims of segregation. The initial coupling was the first to be decided by viewers, resulting in two black couples and three white couples, prompting accusations that producers had allowed racial bias to influence the show.
Ikenna and Amber were eliminated after receiving the fewest votes from the public. Ikenna said as he left: 'I will miss the boys and Dami so much and I wish them all the best!' Amber added: 'I will miss all of them, I will miss the chats with Dami and I have no regrets over my time in the villa at all.'
The show continues with new contestant Antigoni Buxton entering the villa, as the remaining islanders face further public votes.
