Love Island fans disgusted by star's foursome joke with brother

Love Island has once again stirred controversy, this time after contestant Aidan Murphy made a distasteful joke about having a foursome with his brother Kavan. The comment, made during Sunday night’s episode of the ITV2 dating show, left viewers horrified and prompted a wave of criticism on social media.

The Controversial Comment

During the episode, Aidan was dodging questions from his current love interest Yasmin about whether he still had feelings for Ellie. As Yasmin walked past with Kavan, Aidan yelled out a jokey suggestion: 'Why don't we have a foursome?' Kavan responded, 'I'm down.' The exchange may have been intended as a lighthearted moment, but it did not sit well with the audience.

Viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disgust. One user, Lena, wrote: 'Why don't we have a foursome? I know Aidan is obviously joking but considering the other man in that scenario is his BROTHER? Weird af.' Another user, Reha, questioned: 'What is this, incest island?' while Jono compared the situation to the infamous White Lotus season three storyline involving the Ratliff brothers. Maia added: 'I need this Aiden guy out cus why are you joking about a foursome with your own brother tf weirdo.'

Not the First Time

This is not the first time the Murphy brothers have made such a joke. In March, Aidan posted a TikTok video that riffed on similar lines. In the clip, Aidan walks down the street with the words 'Her: You come over – bring your mate as well,' overlaid. The camera then pans to Kavan waiting on the pavement, with 'My mate' written over him. The video suggests a pattern of humor that many find inappropriate.

Despite the backlash, the joke did not seem to affect their standing in the villa. Kavan had previously admitted he would not shy away from healthy rivalry with his brother, saying before entering: 'The only real competition might be my brother if he's in there before me.'

Viewer Reactions

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about what is acceptable on reality TV. Some fans called for the show to address the comment, while others simply expressed their disappointment. The hashtag #LoveIsland trended with many users sharing their disbelief.

Love Island continues on ITV2 at 9pm. The show has yet to comment on the controversy.
