Lorraine Kelly opened Thursday's ITV programme with baby news, revealing that actress Hilary Swank is pregnant with her third child at the age of 52.
Just seconds into the show, Kelly told viewers: “Welcome to the show! First up, baby news in Hollywood, as Hillary Swank has announced that she is pregnant again. Her third child at the age of 52.”
She added: “We have to say it right away, she doesn't look it [52], and clearly, she's an incredibly healthy, healthy woman. And she announced it in a really lovely way.”
Instagram announcement
Kelly then handed over to LA Correspondent Ross King, who explained: “On Instagram, she announced that she and her husband, Philip, are expecting their third baby. That's in December.”
“The video's got Hillary, her husband and the two twins are dancing in the dark, and they've got these kind of glow-stick figure body costumes. And then she reveals her baby bump.” He added that she had captioned her post: 'A lot of people have been asking, what project I'm doing next? This one releases in December.'
Ross said: “The twins, she just had the twins three years ago, back in 2023, she also said she would have had kids earlier but that it now was a magical time in her life, and it was the right time for a myriad of reasons. So congratulations to her.”
Career and family background
Hilary is best known for her roles in Clint Eastwood's sports drama Million Dollar Baby in 2004, the rom-com P.S I Love You in 2006 and The Hunt in 2020. Throughout her career, she has bagged numerous awards, including two Golden Glove Awards and a BAFTA nomination.
She announced on Easter Sunday 2023 that she had given birth to twins with husband Phillip Schneider. Posting on Instagram at the time she said: "It wasn’t easy. But boy (and girl!) was it worth it. Happy Easter! Posting from pure Heaven." Before meeting Philip, Hilary was previously married to Chad Lowe from 1997 to 2007.
Motherhood later in life
Last year, Hilary addressed the idea of becoming a mother later in life, noting that it was not something she planned but she embraced it in the end for various reasons. She said: "I would have had kids earlier, I’m not saying I actively waited until 47. Speaking to Women's Health, she added: "But that was a magical time in my life, when it all culminated. It was the right time for myriad reasons. I’m a very different parent than I would’ve been, even in my early 40s."
Lorraine Kelly airs Monday to Friday at 9:30am on ITV1.
