Lizzie Cundy has publicly condemned her former close friend Sarah Ferguson after newly released Epstein files proved the Duchess of York maintained a secret friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express at the TRIC Awards in June, Cundy said she felt deeply betrayed when evidence emerged that Ferguson had lied to her about her ties to Epstein.
Cundy: 'I Felt Very Disappointed and Let Down'
At the end of January 2026, a fresh batch of Epstein files revealed that Ferguson, 66, was in regular email contact with Epstein while he was imprisoned for child sex offences. Epstein was convicted in 2008 of soliciting prostitution from a minor and served 13 months of an 18-month sentence before his release in July 2009. Cundy, 58, said she had been told by Ferguson that she had no relationship with Epstein, but the emails proved otherwise.
'I didn't know the full story with Sarah,' Cundy said. 'I was getting told that she had no relationship with Epstein. I am one of those people that if you tell me something, I will believe it. When it came to light, that wasn't the case. I saw the emails. I felt very disappointed and let down myself, but especially for the victims. For me, it gave a totally different story to what I was told.'
No Contact Despite Mutual Friends
Cundy confirmed she currently has no contact with Ferguson, despite still having mutual friends. She expressed hope that no further damaging revelations would emerge, but admitted the betrayal has made her question everything about their past friendship. 'I'm hoping that is it but I don't know,' she said. 'The thing is, if you're told something that didn't happen but then it did, it makes you question. I hope not. She hasn't acted in the right way and I think she knows that more than anyone.'
Email Revelations: 'Marry Me' and 'Brother'
The newly released emails contained several disturbing messages. In one, Ferguson told Epstein she was waiting for her daughter, Princess Eugenie, to return from a 'sh*****g weekend.' In another, she asked Epstein to 'marry' her and thanked him for being like a 'brother.' At the end of June, further files revealed that Ferguson visited Epstein twice while he was still serving his sentence for child prostitution. The meetings took place at an office Epstein had set up for a bogus firm while still imprisoned, according to documents discovered by The Telegraph.
