The high-profile, 19-year marriage between Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman and country music star Keith Urban has been legally dissolved. A judge in Nashville, Tennessee, formally granted the divorce this week, ending the union of one of entertainment's most recognised power couples.
Court Finalises Divorce Citing Irreconcilable Differences
Judge Stephanie J. Williams issued the order on Tuesday, 6th January 2026, confirming that all agreements on asset division and child custody were in place. In the court filing, Judge Williams stated the marriage could not continue due to "such irreconcilable differences between the parties that would render continuation of the marriage impractical and impossible."
Neither Kidman nor Urban attended the hearing in person. Representatives for both stars did not respond to requests for comment on the finalisation.
Details of the Settlement and Custody Arrangements
The divorce process began when Kidman, 58, filed the initial paperwork in September. Although the move surprised many observers, legal preparations had been underway for some time. All financial and custody matters were reportedly settled and signed on the day she filed, but Tennessee law required a mandatory 90-day waiting period as the couple have minor children.
The former couple, who are both 58, share two teenage daughters. Under the terms of their settlement, Kidman will be the primary residential parent, with the children expected to remain living in Nashville. The agreement specifies that neither party will pay or receive child or spousal support. Their joint assets will be divided in a roughly equal split.
A Look Back at Their Nearly Two-Decade Relationship
Kidman and Urban, both originally from Australia, first met in Los Angeles in 2005. They married in a lavish ceremony in Sydney the following year. Throughout their 19-year relationship, they were a constant and supportive presence on red carpets worldwide, attending numerous premieres and award ceremonies together.
This was Urban's first marriage. For Kidman, it was her second; she was previously married to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. With Cruise, she has two older adopted children, Isabella and Connor. Reflecting on her first marriage in a 2016 interview, Kidman remarked, "I was so young when I got married. I look back now and I'm like, 'What?'"
While the pair had occasionally alluded to facing challenges in their marriage, there were few public signs pointing towards an imminent separation before Kidman initiated proceedings last autumn. The final court order now brings a formal close to their long-standing partnership.
