Britney Spears has responded to claims made by her ex-husband Kevin Federline in his new memoir, You Thought You Knew, in which he alleges that their sons were frightened to stay at her home. Federline, 47, wrote that the boys would sometimes wake to find Spears standing silently in their doorway with a knife in her hand.
In a statement to The Independent, a representative for Spears said: 'With news from Kevin's book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their wellbeing during this sensationalism.'
Federline and Spears were married from 2004 to 2007 and share two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. In an excerpt from his memoir published by The New York Times, Federline claimed the then-teenagers were scared to stay at their mother's house, describing an incident where Spears allegedly stood over them with a knife.
Spears addressed similar custody issues in her own 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, writing that Federline refused to let her see her sons and 'tried to convince everyone that I was completely out of control' as part of his bid for full custody. Federline, however, told The New York Times: 'I've never, ever, once, been against Britney. I've only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother.'
Spears was placed under a conservatorship in 2008 after a mental breakdown, with Federline granted primary custody of their children. The conservatorship was terminated in 2021 amid the 'Free Britney' movement. Federline now calls for a 'Save Britney' movement, writing that her situation is 'no longer about freedom. It's about survival.'
