Jesy Nelson Exclaims Another Little Mix Star Attempted to Quit Before Her Own Departure
In a startling revelation, Jesy Nelson has asserted that one of her former Little Mix bandmates endeavoured to quit the group prior to her own decision to leave. The singer, aged 34, confessed she was utterly 'blindsided' by this unnamed member's intention to depart, having believed everyone was content at that juncture.
Historical Reports Align with Jesy's Claims
Five years ago, it was rumoured that Perrie Edwards was the individual who initially tried to exit the band. Jesy's recent statements in her new Prime Video documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, appear to corroborate this narrative. She recounted a pivotal meeting in early 2020 where she learned of a bandmate's desire to leave, leaving her devastated and feeling as though her 'whole world had fallen apart.'
Jesy elaborated, 'I thought everyone was in a really good place, but I was wrong. We got called in for a meeting and I just had this gut feeling that it wasn't going to be good. One of the girls had decided they didn't want to be in the band any more. I remember feeling my whole world had fallen apart. It was a really sad day - me and Jade really cried. I was devastated.'
The Identity Remains Unconfirmed
When pressed to name the Little Mix star in question, Jesy declined, stating, 'I don't think that's for me to say because they still haven't said. It's been really hard to not speak out about this. I thought we'd be together forever. It was never my decision to leave first.' This ambiguity has fuelled speculation, with past sources indicating Perrie Edwards expressed a wish to leave in 2019, only to postpone her exit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mental Health Struggles and a Messy Split
Following the meeting, it was decided Little Mix would conclude, but the band's end was delayed by two years due to the pandemic, leading to what Jesy describes as a 'messy' situation. She experienced a 'very quick realisation' that she 'wasn't happy' and had 'mentally checked out' of the group. Jesy explained, 'That was the moment I thought, I can't do this anymore. I just remember thinking, I cannot last another two years. I felt like it [the relationship with the girls] had shifted. There would be days I would cry and be a miserable b***h. All those little things build up and build up and they do get to a boiling point.'
Her mental health deteriorated further, culminating in hospitalisation, which prompted her final decision to leave in November 2020. However, the split was marred by miscommunication; her lawyer informed her bandmates before she could, leaving them 'really hurt.' Jesy lamented, 'I didn't get my opportunity to explain why I couldn't do this anymore. I feel mad that that was taken away from me.'
Attempts at Reconciliation and Lasting Estrangement
Jesy revealed that when she sought to discuss her departure, her bandmates insisted on having a therapist present, which left her feeling isolated. She said, 'I just remember being like, what? I've just come out of hospital, like this is the time I need you the most. I don't know, I just didn't feel like they were my sisters.' The subsequent phone call was described as 'the most uncomfortable' she ever had, marking the last time she spoke to them as a group.
Despite the passage of five years, Jesy still ponders the events, questioning whether management or the members were at fault. She expressed uncertainty about a reunion, though noted a brief reconnection when they reached out during her pregnancy. 'It's just one of those things that need to be put to bed now,' she concluded.
Post-Little Mix Careers and Documentary Release
After Jesy's exit, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall continued as a trio until 2022, when they announced an indefinite hiatus. Each has pursued solo projects: Perrie released her debut album in 2025, Leigh-Anne launched her solo career in 2023, and Jade signed a deal in 2022, winning a Brit Award in 2025. Jesy has released several singles but has put music on hold to focus on raising her twin daughters. Her documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, is now available on Prime Video, aiming to clarify any 'false narratives' surrounding the split.
