Channel 4 has shelved its popular comedy series 'Late Night Lycett' as host Joe Lycett takes an extended break from television to focus on his newborn son. The 36-year-old comedian became a father for the first time in October 2024 and is prioritising family time.
An insider told The Sun: 'Late Night Lycett is a hugely popular format and one that Channel 4 want to keep on air. Joe's witty one-liners as well as the show's comedy and feel-good vibe means it's not shy of attracting big names.' The source added that Channel 4 is keen for another series but meetings have been paused out of respect for Lycett's decision.
The series, which first aired in 2023, features Lycett presenting live from his hometown of Birmingham with sketches, games, and celebrity guests. It won a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance in 2024.
Lycett, who is bisexual, revealed in April 2024 that he has a girlfriend, whom he refers to as 'Denise' to protect her privacy. He has spoken about the emotional impact of fatherhood, saying on the 'Parenting Hell' podcast: 'The first two weeks I did a lot of crying because I did a lot of nostalgia for the future.'
