Anne Hathaway has dismissed claims that she had size-zero models fired from the forthcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada in a push for inclusivity. Speaking to Good Morning America, the actor clarified comments made by her co-star Meryl Streep to Harper’s Bazaar in March, which suggested Hathaway had intervened to ensure models were not 'so skeletal'.
Streep had told the magazine that Hathaway 'made a beeline to the producers' about the thinness of models on set. At the film’s New York premiere last week, Hathaway told Variety she had asked producers for a 'wider range of bodies' to make the scene 'more enjoyable for the audience'.
However, on Good Morning America, Hathaway said: 'There’s a little misinformation getting out there right now that people were fired because of the size inclusivity and that just didn’t happen.' She added: 'Nobody lost their jobs, in fact, it created more jobs.'
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is released in cinemas this weekend, 20 years after the original film. It follows a wave of strong box office performances from films such as Project Hail Mary, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the Michael Jackson biopic Michael.
