Harry Kane has broken his silence on England's World Cup heartache, issuing a heartfelt statement on social media after the Three Lions were beaten 2-1 by Argentina in their semi-final. The England captain, 32, has hinted that this summer's tournament will not be his last major competition for his country, vowing that the team will "go again" after picking themselves up from the defeat.
Kane's Social Media Statement
Kane, who won his 121st cap in Atlanta—more than any other outfield player in England's history—posted a lengthy message on social media. He wrote: "No words are big enough right now to overcome this empty feeling in the stomach. We were close, really close to another final, but it wasn't enough."
"We've given everything over these last seven weeks, and to fall short is hard to take! I know the expectations are high and rightly so, we've been knocking on the door for eight years now, but again are missing that final piece of the jigsaw!"
Kane added: "That's where we have to go away, process it, and find a way to get better. I'm so proud of the boys and what we have shown throughout this tournament - some tough games and tough environments that we have overcome."
Future Hints and Record Chase
The striker is just four appearances away from equalling Peter Shilton's all-time England appearance record of 125 caps. His statement suggests he intends to continue representing England, with the 2028 European Championship, to be hosted across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, a potential target.
Kane's post drew responses from fellow England squad members, including Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers, who replied with red heart emojis.
Upcoming Bronze Final
England return to action at 10pm BST on Saturday in Miami against France in the bronze final. After that, attention will shift towards Euro 2028, where Kane could play a key role.
Kane concluded his statement: "Going for glory doesn't always mean you will get it. You have to fight for it, get knocked down, pick yourself up and go again, and that's what we will do; there's no other way but to keep believing and keeping pushing."
He thanked fans for their support, saying: "Thank you to every single fan that travelled and showed their support in the stadiums. Thank you to every fan back home for believing in us. Thank you to the boys and staff for everything you have given. As always, win or lose, we learn and go again!"
