Gordon Ramsay's £20m London Restaurant Empire 'Scares the Sh** Out of Me'
Gordon Ramsay Admits New Venture 'Scares the Sh** Out of Me'

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has confessed that his latest multi-million pound business venture genuinely terrifies him, describing the pressure as something that "scares the sh** out of me" in a revealing new trailer for his forthcoming Netflix documentary series.

The Most Ambitious Project of His Career

The six-part documentary series follows the Michelin-starred chef across nine intense months as he prepares for what he calls "his biggest restaurant venture to date" - launching not one, but five separate businesses within London's towering 22 Bishopsgate skyscraper. Ramsay has reportedly invested a staggering £20 million into establishing three restaurants, a bar, and a cooking academy within the 62-storey building.

High-Stakes Investment

In the newly released trailer, the 59-year-old culinary icon voices profound concerns about the project, admitting: "There is so much riding on this reputationally, financially. You have to be better than good. It scares the sh** out of me." He continues with characteristic bluntness: "This thing is going to take balls of steel."

The chef even jokes about potentially retiring after completing this mammoth undertaking, remarking: "I think I may retire after Bishopsgate." The sheer scale of launching five businesses simultaneously clearly weighs heavily on him, as he declares: "If 22 Bishopsgate was to fail, I'm f*****."

The Five New Ventures

The tower now houses Ramsay's Lucky Cat, which has claimed the title of London's highest restaurant, alongside the Lucky Cat Bar - a rooftop terrace operating until 3am that serves cocktails and offers late-night entertainment. Additionally, Ramsay has unveiled Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, described as an intimate 12-seat chef's table experience, plus the modern European eatery Bread Street Kitchen & Bar.

Completing the quintet is the Gordon Ramsay Academy, which welcomes members of the public and offers courses in mixology and culinary skills - representing a significant departure from his usual fine-dining establishments.

Humble Beginnings and Professional Fears

The trailer also features Ramsay reflecting on his modest upbringing in Northamptonshire, providing context for his current drive and anxieties. "I grew up on a council estate in Daventry," he recalls. "I still remember my school uniform, having holes in my second-hand trousers. There's always that needle of fear you're going to lose it."

He acknowledges past professional setbacks, stating: "I've lost (Michelin) stars, closed multiple restaurants through my career. That's what puts fuel in my tank" - suggesting that previous failures motivate rather than deter him.

Family Dynamics and Personal Life

The series promises to showcase Ramsay attempting to balance his professional obligations with his roles as a husband and father of six. His wife of nearly three decades, Tana Ramsay, appears in the trailer describing her husband as "someone who dreams big."

Their daughter Tilly features in the trailer offering insight into her father's professional persona: "The way dad is in the kitchen, in a stressful environment, he reacts for perfection."

The trailer also includes footage of his second-eldest daughter, Holly Ramsay Peaty, a 26-year-old model who married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty in an extravagant ceremony at Bath Abbey in December. The nuptials occurred amid reported family tensions, with the Daily Mail suggesting a rift intensified after Peaty's mother Caroline wasn't invited to Holly's hen do.

From Television Personality to Documentary Subject

Ramsay has built his global reputation on his explosive television personality through programmes including Hell's Kitchen and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, but this documentary series appears to offer a more personal, vulnerable perspective on the chef behind the public persona.

The new docuseries launches on Netflix from February 18, promising viewers unprecedented access to Ramsay's professional pressures, personal life, and the high-stakes world of premium restaurant development in one of London's most prominent new skyscrapers.
