Gigi Hadid has revealed that she auditioned for the lead role of Rapunzel in Disney's planned live-action remake of 'Tangled', before the project was put on hold. The supermodel discussed her audition in a new Vogue cover story, telling her co-star Kendall Jenner that she was proud of her performance and had taken singing lessons to prepare.
Hadid, who has previously had voice roles and cameos in films such as 'Ocean's 8', expressed satisfaction with her audition. 'I was really proud of my scene. The singing… I knew they were going to go with a real singer, but I'll show you my audition scene later,' she said.
Disney's live-action 'Tangled' was announced in December 2024, with Michael Gracey in talks to direct and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson writing the script. However, in April 2025, Variety reported that the project was put on indefinite hold following the box office failure of 'Snow White', which grossed under $90 million domestically. In contrast, Disney's live-action 'Lilo & Stitch' has been a major success, becoming the only $1 billion earner of the year so far.
The original 'Tangled' was released in 2010, earning $592 million globally and earning an Oscar nomination for its song 'When Will My Life Begin'. It also spawned a short film and a TV series. Actor Corey Mylchreest, known for 'Queen Charlotte', also auditioned for the role of Flynn Rider but admitted his singing was not up to scratch.
