A couple obsessed with the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey have purchased Uncle Bryn's house for £210,000 and plan to transform it into a holiday cottage tribute to the show. Jaxx Nelson and Tom Bodfish bought the three-bedroom redbrick terrace on Trinity Street in Barry, South Wales, after rewatching the series for a third time.
Iconic TV Location
The house featured in multiple episodes of the beloved comedy, which aired from 2007 to 2010, with a festive finale in 2024. Uncle Bryn, played by Rob Brydon, lived across the street from Gwen West (Melanie Walters) and was often seen racing between the two homes. The property became an iconic set piece, hosting key scenes such as Bryn “surfing the world wide web” to give Gavin directions from Barry to Essex, and entertaining Gavin's mates with burgers and Subbuteo before a night out in Cardiff.
Serendipitous Purchase
Jaxx said: “We’re huge fans of Gavin and Stacey and we’d just rewatched the series when I spotted the house on the market. It was kind of serendipitous that this was even happening. When we first went to view the property, we walked in and just went, ‘Oh my god, we're in Uncle Bryn's house, this is mad.’ We thought: ‘This is where this happened, and this is where this happened.’” The couple, who run a property business, celebrated the purchase with a Cinzano, Uncle Bryn’s favourite tipple.
Plans for a Holiday Let
The couple now plan to recreate the interior to match Uncle Bryn’s home and rent it out as a holiday cottage for fans. They will continue living in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Tom said: “The quirkiest thing for us about it is every time you open the curtains you've got 25 people outside taking photos of your house - that takes a lot of getting used to. We’ve already got to know people involved in Gavin and Stacey tours around Barry including Dave's Coaches. We are planning on turning the house into a holiday let but it will be like staying at Uncle Bryn’s home. We want to create a space for the real fans to actually come, with little bits, little Easter eggs, for people to discover when they get there.”
Previous Owner Unaware
The previous owner, Lisa Edwards, bought the house in 2006 and was unaware of its TV connection until she saw Uncle Bryn showing Gavin on his computer during the series. The property features three double bedrooms, a ground-floor bathroom, an open-plan lounge and dining area, and front and rear gardens.
