Frankie Dettori Released from Hospital After Car Crash

Frankie Dettori is recovering with family after being discharged from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge following a car accident on July 1. The Italian jockey sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb when another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of his car, causing it to spin and flip.

Hospital Discharge and Recovery

Dettori was admitted for scans and observation, but concerns about his spleen were ruled out. He was released on July 3. In a statement from his management company H Talent Management, Dettori said: "I am very relieved that it was not worse. I have had injuries before in my career, but broken ribs are never easy and the only real answer is rest and time." He thanked emergency services and hospital staff, adding: "They were excellent. I am also very grateful for all the messages and calls I have received since the accident."

Career and Upcoming Race

Dettori, who retired from full-time racing after rides in Brazil in February, had signed up for the Leger Legends charity race at Doncaster in September. H Talent Management said he remains "hopeful" of participating, subject to recovery and medical advice. This would be his first ride in Britain since 2023.

After the accident, Dettori posted on Instagram a photo from his hospital bed with his wife Catherine, writing: "Thank you, everyone, for your kind messages and support. A huge thank you as well to the fantastic emergency staff who looked after me. I’m very sore and have a few broken ribs, so I’ll be taking some time to rest and recover. I look forward to seeing you all again soon."
