Actress Erin Doherty, best known for playing Princess Anne in The Crown, has revealed a surprising connection to comedian Romesh Ranganathan: he was her head of sixth form at Hazelwick School in Three Bridges.
Doherty, 33, recalled being called into a meeting with 'Mr Ranganathan' and her father after she was removed from English Literature for failing to read the set books. 'I didn't read any of the books and they pulled me, and I think it was my dad, in. So we had a chat with Romesh Ranganathan when he was just Mr Ranganathan,' she said in a joint interview with co-star Malachi Kirby on Sky News.
The actress, who now stars in Disney+ series A Thousand Blows, said she has not seen Ranganathan since leaving school but would love to meet him now that they are both in the public eye. 'No and I want to! But yeah it's kind of cool,' she said.
Ranganathan, 47, worked as a maths teacher before becoming a comedian. Other notable former pupils of Hazelwick School include former England football manager Gareth Southgate, broadcaster Dan Walker, and singer Chico.
A Thousand Blows, set in 1880s London, follows Jamaican immigrant Hezekiah Moscow (Kirby) into the world of bare-knuckle boxing. Season two premiered on Disney+ on 15 February.
