Lisa Riley Speaks Out on Emmerdale Future
Lisa Riley, best known for her role as Mandy Dingle on Emmerdale, has addressed rumours about her potential exit from the long-running ITV soap. The 49-year-old actress, who also gained fame on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, spoke to Heat Magazine about her career and the uncertainty surrounding the show's future following the reported Sky ITV deal.
Riley stated that while she does not believe her character is leaving imminently, nothing is guaranteed. She explained: "Whatever happens in the storm…I mean, I could be going…I’m not – I’m signed for a long time." This hints that while she has a contract, the changing landscape of ITV ownership could affect the programme.
Mandy Dingle's Tense Storyline with Kev Townsend
When asked about upcoming plots for Mandy, particularly her tense relationship with Kev Townsend, played by Chris Coghill, Riley teased: "Oh, Mandy’s not happy with Kev. She’s a rogue, so she can spot a fellow rogue a mile off, can’t she? Watch out, Kev – the smother mother might be coming out." This suggests ongoing drama between the characters.
Rumours About Bradley Johnson's Exit
Riley also commented on reports that Bradley Johnson, who plays Vinny Dingle, had been dropped from the show. In May, rumours circulated that the 28-year-old actor was leaving. Speaking to the Daily Express, Riley said: "That's not confirmed. I don't know where that's come from! I can't confirm nor deny. He's my dream. We are like family. We're so close." She emphasised the strong bond among the cast.
Praise for Co-Star Chris Coghill
Riley had high praise for her co-star Chris Coghill, stating: "I adore him. Chris Coghill is a genius to work with, phenomenally funny and on his lines so much that you can play with dialogue with him. Doing comedy is an actor's dream. I'm his biggest cheerleader."
Impact of the ITV-Sky Deal on Emmerdale
Riley's comments come amid reports that Sky has acquired part of ITV in a £1.6 billion deal, sparking fears for Emmerdale's future. However, Good Morning Britain journalist Richard Arnold clarified: "All the t's need to be crossed and the i's need to be dotted. But the important thing for you guys watching at home is it's business as normal. All your favourites - Corrie, Emmerdale, the faces you wake up to every morning on Good Morning Britain - nothing's going to change." ITV's production division, which produces I'm a Celebrity, was not included in the transaction, but the media and entertainment division was.
