Singer Dua Lipa has expressed her gratitude after being awarded citizenship of Kosovo by the country's president, Vjosa Osmani. The 29-year-old, born in London to Kosovan-Albanian parents, shared the news on Instagram, stating she was 'feeling so grateful' for the honour.
President Osmani posted a picture of herself presenting the certificate of citizenship to Lipa, with the caption: 'Welcome home Dua.' She described the singer as 'one of the most important cultural and artistic personalities in the history of our country,' highlighting Lipa's role as a powerful voice on global stages and an inspiration to millions.
At the initiation ceremony, Lipa was welcomed by a group of children dressed in white, singing her 2020 UK hit single 'Levitating.' The event followed her appearance at Kosovo's Sunny Hill festival, which she founded in 2018, where she performed the song 'Era' in Albanian with her father.
Lipa moved to Pristina at age 11 after Kosovo gained independence in 2008, returning to London at 15. She previously received Albanian citizenship in November 2022. Since her career began in 2013, she has achieved four UK No. 1 singles and two UK No. 1 albums, with hits including 'Training Season,' 'New Rules,' and 'One Kiss.'
