Delta Goodrem tears up at Strictly family video message

Delta Goodrem became tearful during the Strictly Come Dancing results programme on Sunday, October 11, after being surprised with a video message from her family in Australia.

Presenters Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe returned to screens to reveal which couples had progressed to the following week. Pop sensation Delta and her professional partner Kai Widdrington led the leaderboard for week three, achieving an impressive 33 points out of 40. They were narrowly followed by Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby and Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita, who came joint second with 31 points.

Emotional surprise after leaderboard success

Delta and Kai were predictably amongst the first partnerships to discover they'd avoided the feared dance-off and successfully advanced to the subsequent round of the contest. The duo secured the first nine of the series from Motsi Mabuse and eights from Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke for their Salsa to a medley of Always There by Jocelyn Brown.

Upon hearing the positive announcement, Johannes surprised Delta with a video message from her family members in Australia wishing her "lots of love" and "all the best". The Eclipse hitmaker became emotional after her niece told her "we love your pretty dresses" and her nephew added "come on Auntie Delta, we love love".

Delta's emotional response

Struggling to contain her emotions, a visibly moved Delta said: "That's such a nice surprise" before adding: "That's so beautiful. I love my beautiful family, my babies."

Viewers were left stunned on Saturday, October 10, upon discovering that Shaun Wright-Phillips has a celebrity father. The 44-year-old former professional footballer is the son of pundit and ex-player Ian Wright. Ian arrived at rehearsals to surprise Shaun and his dancing partner Alexis Warr earlier in the week. Speaking to camera, the former Arsenal striker said: "I thought that his moves were really good. Alexis is brilliant. I'm very proud of him because when he gets into that place when he has to focus on something he will be brilliant."

Viewers react to Ian Wright revelation

Following Ian's appearance on the BBC programme, viewers flocked to social media to express their astonishment. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: "Had no idea he was Ian Wright's son." Another shared: "I'm sorry, Ian Wright is Shaun's dad? ? ! ? ! !". A third added: "I did not realise Shaun's dad is Ian Wright." Someone else observed: "Shaun being Ian Wright's son has made me feel really old." A fifth social media user admitted: "Had no idea that Ian Wright was Shaun's dad, I had to Google it."

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday, October 17 at 6.15pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
