Delta Goodrem has said she will “miss dancing” as she skips this week’s Strictly Come Dancing due to a rib injury, adding: “I will be cheering everyone on from my couch on Saturday night.”
It was revealed on Monday that the Australian star would be unable to take to the ballroom floor this weekend after doctors had advised her to rest.
Recovery update on Instagram
The 41-year-old, who has topped the judges’ leaderboard for the past two weeks with professional partner Kai Widdrington, said she was “gutted” and hopes to “be back on that dancefloor very soon”.
Goodrem took to Instagram on Wednesday as she updated her followers about her recovery and said: “Just wanted to come on here and say a big thank you to everyone who has sent messages and wrote lovely comments the last couple of days, I see them all.
“Not the start to the week I’d hoped for but your support has meant the world.”
Thanks to dance partner and team
Addressing her dance partner, she continued: “Also special big thank you to my amazing dance partner @KaiWidd who I will miss dancing with this weekend, but I am so beyond grateful for his guidance and friendship through it all.”
The singer-songwriter and actress also thanked “the wonderful Strictly team”, adding: “Resting and recovering at home and will be cheering everyone on from my couch on Saturday night.”
Goodrem accompanied the message with an image of herself tucked up under a blanket and lying on a sofa, surrounded by several bouquets of flowers.
Recent performances and career highlights
The star has impressed the judges during her time on the BBC dancing competition so far, and she and Widdrington were given a score of 33 for their salsa last week.
Anton Du Beke said Goodrem was “setting a very high bar” this season, while Craig Revel Horwood called her performance “amazing”.
Her appearance on Strictly comes after representing Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in Austria.
Goodrem is best known for her breakthrough role in Neighbours, starring as shy teenager Nina Tucker from 2002 to 2003. She returned to the Australian soap for several guest appearances, including the finale in 2022 before the show was rebooted by Prime Video.
Goodrem has also had a successful music career, which has seen her feature as a coach on The Voice Australia and achieve five Australian number one albums. Strictly Come Dancing continues at 6.15pm on Saturday on BBC One.
