Delta Goodrem broke down in tears during the Strictly Come Dancing results show after receiving a surprise video message from her family in Australia. The pop star and her professional partner Kai Widdrington were confirmed to have made it through to the next stage of the competition.
Top of the leaderboard
Presenters Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe returned to screens on Sunday, October 11, to reveal which couples had progressed. Delta and Kai topped the week three leaderboard with 33 points out of 40, ahead of Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby and Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita, who were joint second with 31 points.
The pair were among the first couples to learn they had avoided the dance-off. Their Salsa to a medley of Always There by Jocelyn Brown earned the first nine of the series from Motsi Mabuse, along with eights from Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke.
Emotional family surprise
After the announcement, Johannes surprised Delta with a video message from her relatives in Australia, who wished her "lots of love" and "all the best". The Eclipse hitmaker was moved to tears when her niece told her "we love your pretty dresses" and her nephew added "come on Auntie Delta, we love love".
Fighting back tears, an emotional Delta said: "That's such a nice surprise" before adding: "That's so beautiful. I love my beautiful family, my babies."
Fans react to Ian Wright revelation
Meanwhile, viewers were left surprised on Saturday, October 10, after realising Shaun Wright-Phillips is the son of footballer and broadcaster Ian Wright. The former Arsenal player appeared at rehearsals to surprise Shaun and his dance partner Alexis Warr earlier in the week.
Speaking to the camera, Ian said: "I thought that his moves were really good. Alexis is brilliant. I'm very proud of him because when he gets into that place when he has to focus on something he will be brilliant."
Fans took to social media to share their disbelief. One viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Had no idea he was Ian Wright's son." Another posted: "I'm sorry, Ian Wright is Shaun's dad? ? ! ? ! !" A third commented: "I did not realise Shaun's dad is Ian Wright." Someone else remarked: "Shaun being Ian Wright's son has made me feel really old." A fifth social media user stated: "Had no idea that Ian Wright was Shaun's dad, I had to Google it."
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday, October 17 at 6.15pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
