Macaulay Culkin and his partner Brenda Song were the picture of festive joy during a romantic family outing to Disneyland last Friday. The couple, who have been together since 2017, were all smiles as they pushed their two young children around the iconic theme park.
A Festive Family Day Out
The pair looked happier than ever, embracing the Christmas spirit in matching festive jumpers. For the occasion, Culkin, 45, sported a black cap with the word 'papa' embroidered on it, which he paired with a simple white T-shirt and jeans. Song, 37, fully embraced the Disney magic, complementing her jumper with a chic black hat inspired by Minnie Mouse.
The focus of their day was clearly their family. They were seen laughing together while navigating the park with their two sons, four-year-old Dakota and three-year-old Carson, who were comfortably seated in a double pram. The family enjoyed classic attractions, including a ride on the iconic Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
A Love Story That Was Worth the Wait
Despite their current bliss, the couple's journey to happiness was not straightforward. They first met in 2014 but only began dating in 2017 after working together on the film Changeland in Thailand. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, they revealed a surprising perspective on their timing.
Both agree that meeting earlier in life would not have worked. "It took me, what, 37 years? 36 years?" Culkin mused. Song responded, "But it wouldn't have happened any other way." When Culkin suggested meeting a decade earlier, they concluded in unison, "We would've hated each other."
From Unimpressed to Unbreakable
The actor openly admitted that Song was "thoroughly unimpressed" by him during their initial meeting. This occurred when Culkin was staying with mutual friend Seth Green, attempting to lighten the mood after Song's sitcom 'Dads' was cancelled. "He was trying to be funny about our show being cancelled and I was not having it," Song recalled.
Their professional reunion on Changeland changed everything. A friend even encouraged Song, noting, "If you're going to ever have a fling. Mack is a safe person." As they grew closer, Culkin shared his personal journals with Song, allowing her to see the sensitive and artistic person behind his public persona.
"I saw this person he put out there—it was a product of this armour that he's put on to protect himself," Song explained. "But I could see that that wasn't really who he was."
Despite past hurts, they continued seeing each other after filming. Culkin knew he was in love before Song did, stating, "I'd never felt this way before. I believed in her down to my bone marrow." Their story stands as a testament to finding the right person at the perfect time, proving that sometimes the best relationships are those that begin with low expectations and grow into an unshakeable bond.
