A bizarre Sky News interview with novelty candidate Count Binface has been hailed as the 'greatest two minutes of television ever'. The segment, featuring Sky News chief political correspondent Jon Craig, left viewers in stitches as the costumed character, wearing a giant metal rubbish bin as a helmet and claiming to be an intergalactic space warrior, delivered a series of absurd policy pledges.
Binface's Unconventional Interview
During the Makerfield by-election coverage, Craig initially seemed unaware of Binface's identity but agreed to an interview. Binface explained his reasons for standing: 'A) It was happening, B) I was at a loose end, C) Because I believe elected mayors should serve out their terms before they're eligible to stand for parliament.'
Binface then chastised Craig for 'not being impartial', and outlined his policies: 'I'm going to rephase the traffic lights on Liverpool Road. I'll price cap Wigan kebabs at £2, I'll make cyclists who disobey the Highway Code have to ride unicycles instead, and I'll turn HS2 into FFS1 and reroute it.'
He also promised to 'build at least one affordable house' and said he'd be 'very happy with one vote'. When Craig questioned whether he lived in the constituency, Binface replied: 'I do tonight', but pledged to relocate if he won.
Viral Reaction
The interview ended with Binface congratulating Craig: 'Well interviewed, well done!' after teasing him for not knowing the names of his interviewees. In the end, Binface received 95 votes, far exceeding his modest target of one.
Viewers on social media were ecstatic, with one calling it 'the greatest 2 minutes and 44 seconds of television' ever, and another hailing it 'pure Partridge'.
