Chris Packham has reignited his bitter feud with Jeremy Clarkson by posting a series of statistics about the UK farming industry on Instagram, directly addressing the former Top Gear star with the question: "Tell me Jeremy Clarkson, is it really all happy smiley down on the farm?" The post, shared on Friday, July 17, quickly drew backlash from fans who accused the naturalist of being divisive and unhelpful.
Fan Reactions and Criticism
One fan commented, according to the Express: "Chris, while I completely agree that farming needs to change, I think given the platform you have, you could do better when making posts like this. To me, this comes across as divisive and an 'us vs them' post, which to my mind is really unhelpful when I know you know farming is actually crucial to our survival and very much part of the picture when it comes to improving the environment for all species."
Another user added: "To be honest, I think it's a shame you are both clashing heads when it's the government, water companies and councils, etc., that need the attention. Currently, the attention is on both of you disagreeing with each other, which helps no one!"
Background of the Feud
The latest exchange comes just days after Clarkson, who runs Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds, branded Packham's earlier criticism of his show Clarkson's Farm as "b******s." Packham, a Springwatch host and Celebrity Gogglebox star, had previously raged over an episode of the Prime Video programme, stating: "Already, right, that's not what a farm looks like. Most farms are horrible monocultures, which have been sprayed with deadly chemicals time and time again. The ground is pumped full of fertiliser, and loads of the animals are indoors in crates, being crushed and kept in the dark. That's an idealistic view of a farm, and it puts the wrong idea in people's minds. And that's only the titles!"
Clarkson responded in his column for The Sun, saying: "It's b******s. And Chris knows it's b******s because, back in 2012, he came to Diddly Squat and spent the day in our woods, foraging and bird watching. If there had been some animals in a crate, being crushed, I'm sure he would have noticed and said something."
Impact and Ongoing Dispute
The feud between the two veteran broadcasters continues to rumble on, with fans expressing frustration that the clash diverts attention from more pressing issues such as government policies, water companies, and councils. Packham's post has been seen as a direct escalation, but many followers urge a more constructive dialogue about farming practices and environmental concerns.
