Iretomiwa Abiodun Micheal, 16, known as Tomiwa, died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln. He was recovered from the water and rushed to hospital on July 9 but could not be saved, passing away at 8:50pm that evening.
Family's Heartfelt Tribute
His family has released a touching tribute through Lincolnshire Police. They described Tomiwa as a vibrant, energetic, and unforgettable young man whose laughter and warmth touched countless lives. As the eldest of four brothers, he was a natural leader and protector.
The tribute read: "Tomiwa was a vibrant, energetic, and unforgettable young man whose presence illuminated every space he entered. His laughter, warmth, and joyful spirit touched countless lives."
A Life of Discipline and Faith
Tomiwa valued punctuality and dedication, never missing school, football practice, or church programmes. He played for Greenbank FC and Lincoln City FC with pride and determination. His faith was central to his life; he was an active member of his church youth ministry and joined the school youth choir at 16.
His family noted his meticulous nature: "He took great pride in his personal hygiene – he was exceptionally neat, never shared cups, and maintained strict cleanliness in all aspects of his life."
Warning to the Public
Authorities have warned people not to enter the water at Swanholme Lakes nature reserve following the tragedy. The family takes solace in their Christian faith, believing they will be reunited in the resurrection.
