For most people, a partner gushing about their 'beautiful' colleague is the stuff of nightmares – but Harriet Dyer, the wife of The Devil Wears Prada 2's Patrick Brammall, is poking fun at the situation. The Australian couple, who both created and star in the award-winning comedy Colin from Accounts, have been married since 2021 and share two children.
Brammall has successfully made the shift from sitcom star to Hollywood leading man, with the 50-year-old playing Anne Hathaway's new love interest in the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. However, his recent comments about working with Hathaway caught the attention of his wife – who joked about the situation in an Instagram post.
Dyer shared a clip of Brammall giving an interview at the film's premiere, in which he said: 'Playing someone who has to fall in love with Anne Hathaway – tough gig. Tough gig.' 'I mean the world's most beautiful person, according to People Magazine and everybody in here,' the interviewer said, to which Brammall replied: 'And me too.' After replaying the comment, the camera then cut to a shocked and dishevelled Dyer, who said: 'What?'
The video becomes a montage of Dyer and Brammall's relationship, set to Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' – from their wedding to dates on the beach – juxtaposed with Dyer anxiously driving in the car.
Dyer also included Hathaway's recent comments about Brammall on BBC One's The One Show, where she described him as 'the dream scene partner'. 'He listens, he's quick and he's a writer himself so he just knows how to turn a phrase. As a person, total joy bomb,' Hathaway said. Interspersed with photos of Hathaway and Brammall looking loved-up while in character were shots of Dyer, lost in thought while brushing her teeth.
'Trust no one,' she wrote in the post's caption. 'Also Devil Wears Prada 2 out tomorrow.' Reacting to his wife's post, Brammall commented: 'Oh GREAT.' Both Sally Phillips and Succession's Sarah Snook left a series of laughing face emojis in the comments, while Lauren Laverne – who interviewed Hathaway on The One Show – added: 'I don't know how to feel about my interview with @annehathaway being part of this montage.'
In the forthcoming film sequel, Brammall plays Peter – a property developer who strikes up a romance with Hathaway's Andy Sachs as she returns to Runway magazine. Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles from the first film, while Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley and Lucy Liu are among the new faces joining the cast. The Independent's Clarisse Loughrey gave the film four stars in her review, praising it as a 'trenchant, committed portrait of the state of contemporary journalist – only with more gags and great frocks'.
