The funeral details of Welsh music icon Bonnie Tyler, who died at age 75 in Portugal last week, have been announced by her family. A celebration of her life will be held in Swansea next month, with public invited to pay respects.
Funeral Procession and Public Tribute
Tyler's family published a notice in the South Wales Evening Post. She is resting at William Pressdee Funeralcare in Mumbles before returning to her home, Fernhill, on Saturday, August 15 at 3.30pm. Those wishing to pay respects are invited to line Newton Road, Mumbles from 3.15pm.
A celebration of Gaynor's life will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary's Church) on Monday, August 17 at 12 noon. Tyler will then return to her hometown of Skewen at approximately 1.20pm en route to a private family service.
Charity Donations and Legacy
Her family requests donations in her memory to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales or Cerebral Palsy Cymru, charities of which Tyler was patron. The notice reads: "Gaynor passed away tragically on July 8, 2026 at hospital in Portugal, aged 75. Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen on June 8, 1951, she was known professionally as Bonnie Tyler, a beloved Welsh singer whose powerful voice defined classics like 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' and 'Holding Out for a Hero'."
She is remembered as "a warm, generous artist whose music touched generations." She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Robert, and siblings Marlene, Angela, Avis, Paul, and the late Pauline and Lynn.
Final Illness and Tributes
Tyler had been unwell after emergency intestinal surgery in May, which placed her in an induced coma. Before her death, her team hoped she would recover for autumn shows, including a homecoming gig in Cardiff. Following her death, tributes poured in globally, with flowers left outside her Mumbles home.
