Becky Hill Booed at TRNSMT for Playing Only New Songs
Becky Hill Booed at TRNSMT Over New Songs Set

Becky Hill was met with boos at TRNSMT festival in Glasgow on Friday, June 19, after telling the crowd she would only perform brand new music. The singer, who rose to fame on The Voice UK, used her set to debut tracks from her forthcoming third studio album, Rebecca, due for release in September.

Fans React to Setlist Change

Footage posted on TikTok by festival-goer Clara Martin shows Hill addressing the audience: "I'm going to play you nothing but brand new music. At some point in every artist's life, we have to let go of the tunes you know me for and introduce you lot to a brand-new era. It's alright, you guys have plenty of other artists to see here." The announcement was met with a wave of boos, though some cheers were also heard. Reports suggest numerous fans walked out during her performance.

Social Media Divided

Online reactions were mixed. One user called it the "worst idea ever at a festival." Another said: "Sorry but a festival slot is not the time to do a set full of new songs only." A third commented: "She's not a big enough artist not to play the hits, especially at a festival! Save the new stuff for your own tour." Another remarked: "Every time you see James Taylor, he is playing Fire and Rain. Every time you see Céline Dion, she sings the theme from Titanic. Sometimes you just have to accept that people like this song and it's what's going to keep you earning money."

Supporters Speak Out

Some defended Hill, with one user stating: "This is so cruel for her, actually, booing like that's a person up there putting her heart on the line. At least give it a chance and then leave if u want." The incident follows other disruptions at the festival, including a brawl between two teens near the Big Wheel on Friday evening, which was broken up by a steward.
