Laura Kuenssberg has disclosed that a government minister and his wife appeared to proposition her for a threesome during a party conference. The former BBC political editor recounted the incident in her new book, Pay Attention.
Ms Kuenssberg said she went to an arranged meeting with the minister in his hotel room, expecting to find him and his adviser. Instead, she found him on the bed with his wife. When asked if the couple were expecting a threesome, she said: 'Well, maybe they were and maybe they weren't. As I say, maybe they weren't and I got it completely wrong. It was very uncomfortable.'
Another Encounter With a Married Minister
She also described a separate meeting with another government minister, who was married, for coffee to discuss work. Instead, they invited her to the theatre and for 'a little grope'.
Politicians have also greeted the journalist with 'kisses on the forehead' and texted her about the clothes she was wearing, forcing her to stop contact with them. She told The Times: 'People do things. And human behaviour is a complicated thing, and sometimes people behave badly.'
Concern for Young People in Westminster
She added: 'There is still a concern in Westminster that particularly young people starting out are sometimes very vulnerable.'
Ms Kuenssberg, 50, was the political editor of BBC News from 2015 to 2022, the first woman to hold the position. In 2022, she began her titular show 'Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg'.
