BBC Radio 1 presenter Dave Jamieson dies in Spain at 76

BBC Radio 1 presenter Dave Jamieson has died at the age of 76 while in Spain, his former employers have confirmed. The broadcaster, who began his career on hospital radio, was a familiar voice on several stations across the UK.

Boom Radio, where Jamieson presented a Sunday early segment, paid tribute, saying: 'He's been a valued member of the team from afar for five years on the Saturday breakfast show initially, before moving to Sundays. He will be much-missed.' Nerja Gold Radio, where he also worked, described him as a 'friend and colleague' and noted he would be missed by regulars at his Tuesday quizzes at Potters Bar.

Jamieson's career spanned decades, starting in his mid-teens. He was instrumental in the launch of BBC local radio, including the first regional segment in Leicester. He also appeared on the Radio 1 Club, BBC Scotland, Birmingham's BRMB, and helped launch Radio Clyde in Glasgow, Mercia Sound in Coventry, and Hull's Viking Radio, among others.

Tributes from former colleagues highlighted his generosity and skill. Kevin Sykes of Mercia Sound recalled meeting Jamieson in 1980 and described him as a 'very dear friend'. Another former colleague, Paul Savory, wrote: 'Dave was one of my best friends back in the BRMB days... RIP my old friend.' A second added: 'Dave was one of the radio greats.'

In the 1970s, Jamieson worked as an out-of-vision announcer for ATV and later for Central. More recently, he helped launch Boom Radio five years ago alongside fellow broadcasters Les Ross, Andy Marriott, and others. No further details about his death have been released.
