BBC Breakfast viewers voiced strong complaints during the Saturday, July 18 episode, with many taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their dissatisfaction. The programme, hosted by Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty from the Salford studio, featured a 25-minute segment from Tech Now, the BBC's flagship technology show that replaced the long-running series Click.
Tech Now Segment Sparks Backlash
Tech Now airs every weekend and covers global innovations, AI developments, transport trends, and consumer tech. The July 18 edition ran for an extended 25 minutes and included segments on WWE, breast pain, sleep, and teeth care. Viewers criticized the content and presentation, with one writing: “What. Tech Now... It's not Sunday. Where's the travel show, at least? And to make it worse, it's the full 25min version.” Another added: “Tech Now is probably the most boring programme on at the moment, the presenters don't even sound interested.”
Audience Reaction on Social Media
The backlash continued with comments such as “So true. This bra article is putting me back to sleep,” and someone describing it as “a hard slog” to watch. A sarcastic viewer shared: “Saggy boobs, just the conversation I needed with my morning coffee.” Another stated: “This has to be one of the worst episodes of Tech Now known to man. Even the cats are snoring.” The segment drew particular ire for its focus on topics perceived as irrelevant to a morning news audience.
Other Coverage on the Episode
Much of the rest of the programme focused on Andy Burnham, the Makerfield MP, who is said to be finalising his cabinet ahead of becoming prime minister on Monday, July 20. Sources indicated the incoming prime minister aims for a “dynamic” start, focusing on the cost of living, devolution, and growth. In his Downing Street speech after being appointed by King Charles, Burnham is expected to outline his vision. After being confirmed as Labour's new leader, Burnham said on Friday: “What a moment,” before adding: “I'm ready.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
