Bay City Rollers Return to Blyth Live Festival After Lightning Cut Short Set
Bay City Rollers Return to Blyth Live After Lightning

Pop legends Bay City Rollers are set to return to a North East festival this weekend to finish the anthem that was cut short by a lightning strike last year. The band, now led by founder guitarist Stuart 'Woody' Wood, will headline Blyth Live Festival on Saturday, June 20.

Last Year's Dramatic Show

During their performance at the 2025 festival, the band was midway through their hit 'Bye Bye Baby' when an unexpected thunderstorm struck. For safety reasons, festival organizers had to cut power to the stage, abruptly ending the show. Despite the interruption, fans continued singing along in the rain, creating what was later described as 'the most unique live music experience' the festival has ever seen.

Second Chance for Fans

Now, the Bay City Rollers are returning to Northumberland to give fans the ending they deserve. The free seafront festival at Blyth's Mermaid Car Park site promises a day-long party from 11am to 9pm.

Star-Studded Line-Up

Joining the Bay City Rollers on the bill are nineties dance icons D:Ream, Taylor Swift tribute act Naiomi Smyth, and bands including Groove Train, She the Show, Harriet Rose, Be Right Back, and Rosie. The family-friendly festival also features a funfair, street theatre, market stalls, global cuisine, and entertainment for all ages.

Community Involvement

Local performers include Community Voices, Blyth Valley Samba, and Linsey School of Dance. Julie Summers from Blyth Town Council said: "The Blyth Live Festival is a real family orientated festival and one of the highlights of the town's events calendar. It continues to grow in popularity and scale, putting the town on the cultural map."

Summers added that the council is "thrilled" about the Bay City Rollers' return, saying: "Last year was one of those moments no one will ever forget: the crowd, the storm and the spirit of live music all coming together."
