Bargain Hunt's Anita Manning: Career Firsts and Hair Transformation

Anita Manning, a familiar face on BBC's Bargain Hunt since 2010, has led a pioneering career in the antiques industry. The 78-year-old is believed to have been Scotland's first female auctioneer, a role she has held for over 50 years. She also appears on Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip.

Early Career and Family Influence

Manning's passion for antiques began in the 1970s when she worked as a buyer. Her father first took her to auctions in Glasgow, sparking her interest. Before entering the antiques world, she studied physical education and dance, then shifted to furniture dealing.

Great Western Auctions and Personal Life

Since 1989, Manning has co-owned Great Western Auctions in Glasgow with her daughter, Lala. She described her passion: "For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about Art, Antiques and Auctions. The beauty in craftsmanship and design, coupled with the social history of the objects, that I am privileged to handle on a daily basis, has been a continual source of joy." She added, "The drama and excitement of the auction world has been a most stimulating environment and one I relish being a part of." Manning also has a son, Luke, who lives in Hong Kong.
