A baby name consultant has shared a list of 47 names she dislikes, warning parents against choosing monikers linked to dark characters or overly cute trends. In a video, consultant Jessie explained her reasoning, which includes negative associations and personal preferences.
Names with Negative Associations
Jessie advised parents not to name their children after TV or movie characters, especially when those characters experience disturbing events. She specifically mentioned Daenerys from Game of Thrones, saying she "hates" it because it represents a fandom where "dark or gross things have happened to that character."
She also criticised "overly cute" names like Bambi, the name of Molly-Mae Hague's daughter, along with Sweetie and Sugar. Names ending in "x," such as Maddox, reminded her of Scrabble words, while she claimed Maverick and Malachi have a "curse" attached to them.
The Full List of Names to Avoid
Jessie's list includes Riot, Rowdy, Riker, Ruckus, Ransom, Daenerys, Sweetie, Sugar, Bambi, Hoax, Hex, Maverick, Malachi, Gage, Otto, Otis, Devon, Fisher, Knox, Maddox, Boston, Alani, Ava, Everly, Kinley, Kinsey, McKenzie, Renly, Brinley, Kimberly, Hazely, Bexley, Olivia, Madison, Addison, Sarah, Haley, Eliana, Oakland, Oakley, Ariella, Ariel, Maisie, Sydney, Jessica, Skylar, and Muriel.
Consultant's Advice and Public Reaction
Before ending her video, Jessie encouraged parents to stick with the names they love but to consider how their choices could impact their children as they grow up. She said: "Please don't take these to heart. If this, like, bothers you, please. People hate my baby names, hate them every single day."
She added: "There's no end-all be-all on, like, taste for names. It's fine. It's fine. Don't let people on social media hurt your feelings about baby names."
Commenting on her video, one user said: "I feel like you'd hate mine Mara, Fiadh and Ruadh." Another user added: "My son's name is Maddox!" A third user said: "I'm not taking any advice from a baby name consultant ever since that one lady named her kid Wrigley." One more user added: "One of my most loathed names is Sutton - it's just awful."
Baby Name Predictions for 2027
According to experts at BabyCenter, parents are embracing names with an 'X-factor' and drawing inspiration from films and TV programmes like Yellowstone, Gilmore Girls, and Heated Rivalry. A statement reads: "Top trend predictions for 2027 include hockey TV dramas, Greek epics, and Western aesthetics. BabyCenter data shows that names are getting longer for boys and girls these days."
The statement also notes that names starting with 'E' are growing for girls, as are names starting with 'J' for boys, while "Taylor fatigue" causes the name to drop sharply in registrations among both boys and girls.
