A sequel to the hit film The Devil Wears Prada is reportedly in development, with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt expected to reprise their original roles. According to Puck News, plans are underway for a follow-up to the 2006 original, with Streep returning as fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly and Blunt as her former assistant Emily Charlton, now an executive. The plot is said to involve a showdown between the two characters.
However, it remains uncertain whether Anne Hathaway will return to play Andy Sachs in the Disney production. Original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is in discussions to write the sequel, as reported by Variety. The news comes just months after Hathaway told E! News that she did not think a continuation of the story would happen, joking that the trio would 'continue to give out awards to other people' but dismissing the idea of a sequel.
Hathaway had previously expressed a desire to reunite with the cast and director David Frankel but wanted the original movie to stand alone. She said: 'The truth of the matter is - with any film - all we can do is make it. The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it's the love that everybody pours to it. Let's just keep the thing that we all agree with love.'
Fans have taken to social media to demand Hathaway's return, with one user stating, 'Full og cast or nothing,' while another asked, 'Where does Miss Hathaway fit into this?' Some fans have expressed reservations about the sequel, with one suggesting a prequel instead to show Miranda's rise to success.
