Alison Hammond reveals 'easy' secret to avoiding Bake Off weight gain
Alison Hammond's easy Bake Off weight gain secret

Alison Hammond has shared the "easy" method she uses to avoid piling on the pounds while filming The Great British Bake Off, where tempting treats are never far away. The This Morning star, who has lost 11 stone over the past five years, revealed that she sticks to a simple fitness routine even on set.

Her On-Set Workout Routine

Hammond, who recently returned to co-host Bake Off alongside Noel Fielding and judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson, told Heat magazine that her personal trainer has devised a 20-minute weights workout she can do during downtime on set. "My trainer's given me something I can do when I'm away and I can't see him. I'll do stretches, squats, weights - something for every body area. It's easy to fit in," she said.

The presenter, who weighed 28 stone at her heaviest and now tips the scales at between 15 and 17 stone, also enjoys Pilates and boxing, and sometimes fits in an early-morning circuit at the gym. "I just like to get out of breath. I love to sweat. I love the feeling afterwards," she added.

Motivated by Health Concerns

Hammond previously said she decided to tackle her weight after receiving a pre-diabetes diagnosis. Her late mother, Maria, who had type 2 diabetes, also urged her to act shortly before she died in 2020. Hammond recalled on This Morning: "I'll never forget when my mum was really ill in hospital. She looked at me – she's never commented on my weight my whole life - and she said, 'Alison, don't end up like me; try and sort out your weight.'"

Rather than using weight loss jabs, Hammond has said she adopted a "cutting back, not cutting out" approach, focusing on healthier eating habits. She reduced her sugar intake, prioritised portion control, and worked out up to four times a week, concentrating on strength training and Reformer Pilates rather than intense cardio, which helped reverse her pre-diabetes.

Addressing Weight Loss Jab Questions

In October last year, Hammond addressed the topic of weight loss jabs at the Women of the Year awards, telling Richard Eden of the Daily Mail: "It worries me that the jab keeps getting brought up. Every single time I have a conversation in public, that is the question thrown at me." She said she had "absolutely not" used them, adding: "I don't like the fact that you have to say: 'Oh, no, I wouldn't have the jab ever'. Maybe next year. Do you know what? I might start jabbing up. What does it matter how people lose weight?"

She also challenged potential critics: "Would you rather me die from being obese?"

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 tonight (November 3) from 8pm to 9.15pm.
