Adam Frost on Wife's Rare Praise Making Him 'Uncomfortable'

Gardeners' World presenter Adam Frost has revealed that his wife's rare praise for his latest career move left him feeling 'uncomfortable'. The 56-year-old horticulturist has teamed up with writer Caitlin Moran for a new podcast called Outsiding, which features guests in her north London garden discussing nature, wildlife, and gardening.

Frost's Wife Gives Rare Compliment

Speaking to Dermot O'Leary on BBC Radio 2, Frost admitted he had not watched the first episode, but his daughter and wife had. 'My daughter has watched it three times and even my wife has watched it,' he said. Moran interjected: 'And your wife praised you, which is rare apparently.' Frost agreed: 'Very rare. Last night we got in bed and she said, "I'm proud of you."' After O'Leary remarked it was wonderful to hear, Frost added: '25 or 26 years together mate, that's probably the third time. It was like, "Woah, I feel slightly uncomfortable now", what have I done? But yeah, no [it's] magical.'

New Podcast 'Outsiding'

The first episode featured comedian Bob Mortimer, who reflected on his relationship with the outdoors. Frost previously said in a statement: 'I can't wait to spend time with Caitlin every week. My hope for this podcast is that it makes people smile - after that everything is a bonus. I'm really not sure where our conversations will go, which is why I'm looking forward to it - we might even learn something along the way!' He also expressed excitement about meeting 'so many people' and talking about all things outdoors.

Gardening as Therapy

For Frost, gardening is more than a career; he has credited it with helping him manage health struggles and dyslexia. After training under the late Geoff Hamilton, Frost built a successful horticulture and broadcasting career. On the My Time Capsule podcast, he said of Hamilton: 'Like any 16-year-old, who is a bit lost and a bit angry, those influences are so important. Being able to use your hands, and feel like you're playing a part in something.'

Frost also lives with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition causing widespread pain and fatigue, diagnosed about 20 years ago. He has battled depression and often describes gardening as healing. He said: 'I think if we all gardened, the world would be a better place. [It's good for your] mental health, physical health, and what's great now is, it's actually being prescribed by the NHS and there's gardens starting to be created in different places.'

Gardeners' World continues tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.
