Amy Ginger Hart, 35, known as Hart, has revealed she hasn't shaved in years, and says her natural body hair has significantly boosted her adult career. She has amassed more than 700,000 followers on Instagram.
Stopped shaving in her 20s
Hart stopped shaving in her mid-twenties after years of feeling that being hair-free was simply a societal expectation for women. She says that since embracing her natural body hair, she has become "way, way more successful" in her adult career, with about one in four of her custom requests now specifically focused on it.
Hart charges around $100 (approximately £75) per minute for videos and claims she can easily earn $1,000 (£756.07) daily from them. She says fans request everything from close-ups of her underarm hair to clips of her running her fingers through it.
Subscribers attracted to body hair
Hart estimates that roughly half of her subscribers are particularly attracted to her body hair, with many reportedly becoming distressed at the mere idea of her shaving it off.
She stated: "It never would have crossed my mind that my body hair would become this popular. I will say that from the period of time where I was removing all my body hair, compared to now where I don't, I am way, way more successful."
Self-love journey
She added: "I always hated shaving. I remember one of my older sisters showing me how to shave my legs when I was around 12, and just thinking 'ugh, I don't like this'. I found it unnatural and unsettling. It was something I thought I was required to do, no matter how much I hated it. It irritated my skin and felt so uncomfortable.
"I stopped in my 20s because I just had so many other things I would rather do with that time and I was on a self-love journey. I started becoming more self-actualised and just lost the motivation to appear 'acceptable' at the cost of my own ease in my body.
"I realised anyone who was going to be put off by something as silly as hair wasn't my cup of tea anyway, so why keep trying to please those people?
"I think becoming a sex worker contributed to that mindset as well - plenty of people were already going to be upset or disgusted by who I was choosing to be, so what was the harm in giving them one more thing to get worked up about?"
Strong reactions and business impact
It's now been at least five years since Hart last removed hair from her legs. She admits to trimming her underarms and private areas every few months, but only does what's necessary to keep those areas manageable.
She says people's views are split - they either accept it or reject it. But she admitted that people generally have "strong reactions" to her appearance regardless.
Hart added: "In my real life, no one mentions it. In my community - which is 99% queer people - having body hair is actually the norm."
Hart also revealed that having more body hair has been "amazing" for her business. She claims that for many people, it provides the "shock factor".
She added: "Photos showing my body hair tend to go viral because people have such a visceral reaction to seeing it and they just have to comment, and that drives engagement. Even hate comments can be great for business!
"The first messages I receive from so many of my subscribers are about my body hair and how it drew them in. I've had extremely powerful men make serious relationship proposals to me based on Instagram photos showing my armpits, and a bit of my bush peeking out of my bikini.
"For the men who love it, it's the most erotic and womanly thing to them. I also think the combination of being a redhead and being hairy makes me fairly unique in the industry.
"Bright orange pubic hair is a bit of a unicorn in the landscape of adult content. I think people crave novelty, so whether or not it's someone's particular fetish it piques curiosity and gets people clicking through."
