ThirdBite, the charity food event in Newcastle that brings together Michelin-starred chefs from across the UK, will return in 2027 after raising almost £130,000 for Cancer Research UK. The event, held at Wylam Brewery in Exhibition Park in July, saw 20 chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants each serve 500 portions of their signature dishes to crowds of foodies.
Record fundraising total
The culinary creations raised £129,713.95, surpassing previous years. Combined proceeds from the debut Bite Back in 2024 and SecondBite in 2025 raised just under £200,000 for Cancer Research UK, which supports researchers, clinicians, and nurses working to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer.
Organised by Cal and Siân Byerley, who run Michelin-starred Restaurant Pine in Northumberland, the event featured dishes like Desperate Dan's Cow Pie by Tom Shepherd, Japanese beef katsu curry from Gareth Ward, and a lobster and scallop katifa fried dumpling by Josh Angus. Cal served Pine's 'alien egg' dish, while head chef Ian Waller created a 'lion's mane' dish.
Event highlights and future date
Visitors pre-booked tokens at £10 each, with new VIP table options and a special collaboration beer. Live entertainment included DJs and a silent online auction with prizes from supportive businesses. The 2027 event is scheduled for July 18.
Siân Byerley said: "Every year the event proves what this industry does best when it comes together," adding that "20 incredible chefs gave up their Sunday to cook for total strangers, all in the name of raising money for a cause that touches every single one of us."
