Suzi Quatro appeared on BBC Breakfast to honour her late friend Bonnie Tyler, sharing memories of their decades-long friendship and an emotional farewell message.
A Tribute to a Fellow Rock Singer
On the August 15 episode of the flagship news programme, host Charlie Stayt spoke with Quatro, who described Tyler as a 'legend' and a close friend. Tyler, known for hits like 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' and 'Holding Out for a Hero', died in July at the age of 75.
Quatro, who started her career in 1973, said she had known Tyler since the late 1970s. 'I've known her a very, very long time. I started in '73 and she started in '76 so just a few years after me, but we ran along a tandem path,' she said. 'Our careers are very parallel... We were always meeting up at gigs around the world and we always talked.'
Fond Memories and a Final Farewell
Quatro recalled a memorable moment after a gig: 'I came off stage and I'll never forget it, Bonnie went "What did you do to those people?" and that made me laugh. Aw, that's a nice memory to have of her.'
She also shared an emotional message for Tyler's procession, which was expected to pass through Mumbles in South Wales. 'And so it's time to finally say goodbye to my fellow rock singer, my fellow Gemini. Boy, oh boy. And, my friend, you have left your voice in this world big time. Now you are singing with angels. Rest in peace, love, and - the most important thing - respect.'
Tyler's funeral is scheduled for Monday, August 17, in Swansea city centre, with the cortege then travelling to her birthplace of Skewen.
