Strictly: Melanie Walters second celebrity eliminated

Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters, 64, has become the second celebrity eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing, losing the dance-off to former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Dance-off verdict

Melanie and her professional partner Aljaž Skorjanec, 36, finished in the bottom two for the second consecutive week. The judges sent them home after a tense dance-off against Shaun and his partner Alexis Warr.

On Saturday night's episode, Melanie and Aljaž performed a Charleston to Ooh Ahh… Just A Little Bit by Gina G, scoring 17 from the judges. Craig Revel Horwood remarked that he 'didn’t love' their dance, while Motsi Mabuse encouraged the actress to 'keep going'.

Judges' decision

On Sunday night's results episode, they faced Shaun and Alexis, who had scored 15 for their quickstep to I’m A Believer by The Monkees. After both couples performed again, Motsi opted to save Melanie, but Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Revel Horwood all chose to save Shaun.

Viewers expressed sadness at the result, with @sasha_ddm writing: 'I’m so sad to see who left.' @RyanSoapKing25 said: 'Heartbroken for the couple that have left.'

Earlier performances

During the first week, Melanie scored 15 for her cha cha cha, and received the same score the following week for a waltz to Edelweiss from The Sound of Music during Movie Week. The elimination comes one week after celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, 43, and Amy Dowden, 36, were sent home.

Sunday's episode also featured a special group performance with two teams of professional dancers in a ballroom vs Latin showdown, and a performance from musician Jalen Ngonda of his song Burning Temptation, accompanied by Neil Jones and Lethabo Monametsi. The remaining 13 couples will dance next week for icons week.
