Strictly fans furious as fan-favourite axed in dance off

Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left furious after a second celebrity and their professional partner were sent home following a nail-biting dance off.

The latest episode saw EastEnders' Lacey Turner kick off the show with a sensational samba, scoring 26 from the judges. But as the competition progressed, things soon became quite heated, with former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips finding himself at the bottom of the leaderboard, having scored just 15 for his quickstep.

Bottom of the leaderboard

Anton Du Beke remained hopeful, insisting that Shaun had "all the components to be a super, super dancer." Gavin and Stacey actress Melanie Walters and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec also found themselves in trouble with their Charleston, the pair scoring just 17, with Craig Revel Horwood telling the actress that the dance "wasn't your thing."

At the other end of the scale, singer and actress Delta Goodrem and her partner Kai Widdrington were leading the way, having scored a staggering 33 for their salsa.

Fans react to the exit

In heartbreaking scenes filmed last night, one couple were sent home – and fans are not exactly happy. The Mirror has chosen not to name the celebrity who left the studios.

One fan said: "Heartbroken for the couple that have left." As a second went on to write: "I'm not going to say much about the strictly spoiler because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who doesn't like to know until the results show... But I'm so sad to see who left." "The judging this year is a joke," moaned another after seeing how the fab four voted.

Leaderboard tightens

As the live show ended, Delta was riding high at the top of the leaderboard, closely followed by Cache and Maddie with 31, Tabby and Mark also with 31, Jaime and Carlos on 28, Dani and Nikita on 27, along with Bethany and Nancy on 72, meanwhile Lacey and Vito scored 26, Will and Dianne, as well as Graeme and Lauren were awarded 25 points, Sarah and Julian, Lawrence and Jowita, John and Katya all scored 20, Melanie and Alijaz with 17 and Shaun at the bottom.

But while some would be disappointed with their scores, professional star Nancy said of her American Smooth with Bethany: "Hard work does pay off. They gave us criticisms, we remember it and we work on them." Meanwhile, Julian admitted that he and Sarah did everything in their power to have fun and also impress the judges. Praising Dame Sarah, he commented: "She did everything we worked on, everything we asked for. And at the end of the day, we always say, did you have fun? We take it in our stride to get better."

Vote importance

After the episode ended, fans were left in limbo, with one fan noting that the leaderboard was tighter than ever. One said: "Omg, I can't believe how tight the leaderboard is. The vote counts more than ever because the bottom and the top are going to be so close in terms of points. Guys, please vote for your favourites because anyone could go this week."

A second went on to write: "Yeah it's so important to vote. More important than ever really because someone decent could go home early if they end up in the dance off against someone else good." Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.10pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
