Strictly fans 'devastated' as Melanie Walters exits, predict Shaun's fate

Strictly Come Dancing fans said they were 'devastated' after Melanie Walters became the second celebrity to leave the competition, and it left them making the same prediction about next week's show.

Last week, Chris Appleton became the first contestant to be eliminated from the BBC One dance contest alongside his professional partner Amy Dowden, and they have now been followed out of the show by the Gavin & Stacey star and her pro, Aljaz Skorjanec.

Charleston lands bottom of the leaderboard

After finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard last week, Melanie performed a Charleston this week with partner Aljaz. Although Craig Revel Horwood said he loved the dance style, he told Melanie it "wasn’t your thing", and they were awarded a total of 17 points.

During Sunday's (October 11) results show, it was confirmed they had landed in the dreaded dance-off against former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and his partner Alexis Warr, after they landed at the bottom of the week three leaderboard, with a score of 15 out of a possible 40 for their quickstep.

Judges' verdicts and exit

After the judges' scores were combined with the public vote, both couples faced the red light of doom and had to perform their routines again, with only one of them guaranteed to keep their place in the competition. Shaun and Alexis performed their Quickstep to I’m a Believer by The Monkees, before Melanie and Aljaz performed their Charleston to Ooh Ahh... Just A Little Bit by Gina G.

After both couples had danced, the judges delivered their verdicts. While Craig chose to save Shaun and Alexis, Motsi Mabuse chose to save Melanie and Aljaz, before head judge Shirley Ballas chose to save Shaun and Alexis. Anton – who this week was the judge with the deciding vote – saved Shaun and Alexis, meaning Melanie and Aljaz had to leave the competition.

Fans react and predict next week

Reacting to the news, while some felt it was the right bottom two, they were left upset by Melanie's exit, and believe that Shaun may be in trouble again next weekend.

@eastieariana786 said: "Devastated at who has gone I really thought they had potential. The couple who got saved, make the most of next week I don’t see them surviving past next week. #Strictly." @slinehan1 commented: "Absolutely the right bottom two and right decision. Glad there was no shock this time." @LeahXBarnes wrote: "Shame about aljaz!! was hoping shaun was out!! football terms no offence! Liverpool all the way! he'll be gone next week."

Sunday night's results show also saw Shirley and Anton take to the floor as part of a special group performance, with two teams of professional dancers going head-to-head for glory in a Ballroom vs Latin showdown. There was also a performance from musician Jalen Ngonda of his song ‘Burning Temptation’, accompanied by professional dancers Neil Jones and Lethabo Monametsi.

The remaining thirteen couples will take to the dancefloor next week, when Strictly Come Dancing returns at 6:15pm on Saturday, October 17, for Icons Week.
