Simla, a Quayside restaurant that has been serving authentic Indian cuisine since 1981, has been named Best in Newcastle at the 15th English Curry Awards. The ceremony took place in Wolverhampton on Monday evening, where the popular Side establishment triumphed over stiff competition from fellow Newcastle haunt Sanskrit, which was Recognised for Excellence, and Pinaki in Byker, which received an Outstanding accolade.
A Long-Standing Favourite
Opened decades before the first Curry Awards were handed out, Simla is still going strong after 45 years. Customers continue to return time and time again for its authentic and very tasty dishes, with the enduring love for the restaurant reflected in its steady stream of five-star reviews online. One diner, writing just last week, described it as 'absolutely incredible' and a 'must visit' in Newcastle.
Celebrating England's Curry Industry
The awards celebrated the very best of England's curry industry, recognising restaurants, chefs, takeaways, and hospitality professionals from across the country. While Simla took home Best in Newcastle, there were also separate 'best of' categories for cities including Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, and Birmingham.
