Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander
The programme revolves around Jerry's mishaps with his closest mates, and the character represents a fictionalised version of comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The 72-year-old star, who secured a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in the programme, went on to appear in and produce numerous films and shows, including Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. He has also penned three books, with his most recent being published in 2020, and his countless accomplishments have resulted in him achieving official billionaire status. In 2024, Bloomberg proclaimed Seinfeld a billionaire with a net worth exceeding $1 billion, courtesy of various syndication deals his sitcom secured, making him amongst the wealthiest celebrities.
George was recognised for battling numerous insecurities and would frequently sabotage his relationships through a dread of being rejected. He was portrayed by Jason Alexander, a 66-year-old actor and comedian who subsequently went on to helm several theatrical productions, including the original 2023 Broadway staging of The Cottage. His most recent role features in the forthcoming film Jimmy, centred on actor James Stewart, where he takes on the part of film producer Louis B. Mayer. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards
Elaine served as Jerry's former girlfriend, though the duo preserved a strong connection and are regarded as closest friends. She was brought to life by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, a 65-year-old actress and comedian who has emerged as one of television's most decorated performers. She gained entry to the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2014 and boasts her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2023, she took on hosting duties for the podcast Wiser Than Me, while her latest role appeared in the 2026 film The Sheep Detectives.
In 2017, she disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis, which she learnt about the day following her Primetime Emmy Award triumph for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in Veep. Fortunately, a year later, she declared herself cancer-free.
Kramer served as Jerry's next-door neighbour, recognised for his quirky nature, with his character drawing loose inspiration from comedian Kenny Kramer, a past neighbour of Larry David. He was played by Michael Richards, a 77-year-old actor and comedian who published his autobiography, Entrances and Exits, in 2024. In his memoir, he disclosed how he battled stage 1 prostate cancer in 2018 by undergoing a prostate removal.
In a conversation with People magazine about his diagnosis, the actor confessed he was bracing himself for death, revealing: "I thought, well, this is my time. I'm ready to go. But then my son came to mind just a few seconds later and I heard myself saying, 'I've got a nine-year-old and I'd like to be around for him. Is there any way I can get a little more life going?'"
Estelle Harris and Larry David
Estelle Costanza, George's mother in the series, was portrayed by Estelle Harris, who sadly died in 2022 at the age of 93. Although she died of natural causes, her death occurred just 20 days shy of her 94th birthday. Her son Glen Harris, who cradled her as she took her last breath, told Deadline at the time: "Her kindness, passion, sensitivity, humour, empathy and love were practically unrivalled, and she will be terribly missed by all those who knew her." The actress was also recognised for providing the voice of Mrs Potato Head in the Toy Story films.
Larry David played Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, although his face was never shown on screen. The 79-year-old comedian, actor and TV producer later wrote and starred in the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm. In July 2025, David announced his comeback to TV with the series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, which premiered in June 2026. Produced by Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions, the series adopts a humorous take on pivotal moments in American history. It featured some major stars including Kaley Cuoco, Jimmy Kimmel and even Barack Obama himself.
