Roger Federer to Return to US Open for Star-Studded Exhibition Match
Roger Federer Returns to US Open for Exhibition Match

Roger Federer is set to return to the US Open court this year for what is being described as a “once-in-a-lifetime exhibition”. The Swiss tennis legend, who won five consecutive US Open titles between 2004 and 2008, will be part of a star-studded line-up featuring long-time rival Andy Roddick, as well as past champions Andre Agassi and John McEnroe.

A Historic Return to Flushing Meadows

Federer’s last appearance at Flushing Meadows came in 2018, and his official retirement arrived in 2022. The 20-time Grand Slam champion remains the only player—man or woman—to win five straight US Open titles. The exhibition will take place at Arthur Ashe Stadium, a venue where Federer created many unforgettable memories.

Federer’s Excitement

Speaking about the event, Federer said: “The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me. So many unforgettable moments of my career happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means a great deal to me. I’ve missed being part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy that the fans bring every year. To return to Arthur Ashe and share the evening with Andy, Andre and John makes it even more meaningful. I’m looking forward to celebrating those memories, seeing the fans again, and enjoying a very special night together.”

USTA Chairman’s Comments

Brian Vahaly, chairman of the board, president and interim co-CEO of the USTA, commented: “It goes without saying that Roger Federer is one of the greatest champions to ever step onto a tennis court, and his legacy at the US Open will carry on for generations. We're thrilled to welcome him back for this unique and special event, giving fans an opportunity to celebrate Roger's legacy and thank him for all he has meant to our sport.”

Fan Reactions

Unsurprisingly, fans were ecstatic when the news was announced. @AhmSheikhh wrote on X: “GOAT back for an exhibition match in US Open.” @fednanen replied: “KING OF NEW YORK,” with a photo of all five US Open title wins. And @MaesTro_RF added: “Nobody ever sold tickets more than RF. Arthur Ashe Stadium will be bunkers when he’s on court.”

Federer is not only considered one of the best-ever tennis players, but also one of the greatest athletes of all time. The Basel-born star transcended sport and holds records that will most likely never be beaten, chief among them being his US Open five-peat.
