Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) made their live debut in Rochdale on Friday night, headlining the Feel Good Festival at the town hall. The electro-pop pioneers performed a 90-minute set to a sell-out crowd of about 5,000.
Historic Connection
The band's first single, Electricity, was recorded at Cargo Studios in Rochdale. Support acts Peter Hook and the Light and A Certain Ratio also have close ties to the famed studio, which Peter Hook later owned and renamed Suite 16.
The concert took place 50 years after Andy McCluskey saw Kraftwerk in Liverpool, a gig that inspired him to form the band with Paul Humphreys within a month.
Set Highlights
The set spanned most of their 14 studio albums, including hits like Tesla Girls, Joan of Arc, Souvenir, and Enola Gay. The encore fittingly ended with Electricity.
Peter Hook and the Light treated the audience to New Order classics, including Blue Monday and True Faith. The Feel Good Festival continues with a headline performance by Gabrielle.
