Lando Norris has been criticised after footage of the McLaren driver mocking a fellow Formula One driver went viral. The video was filmed after the Singapore Grand Prix, where Norris finished fourth, 40 seconds behind Championship leader Kimi Antonelli in third.
Following the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Norris was seen partying alongside fellow driver Oliver Bearman. During their night out, a worker in the bar held up a digital sign reading: “To the best driver.” Norris, unaware he was being filmed, was caught on camera shouting: “Where’s Lance?”
Fans react to Norris's comment
The comment is widely interpreted as a sarcastic jibe aimed at Lance Stroll, who currently sits 21st in the standings. Several Formula One fans criticised Norris for his actions on social media.
@AnaRij60791 wrote on X: “Sorry but mean girl energy is not funny at all. He’s a world champion now so he’s expected to lead by example. This isn’t it.”
@MV3daily responded: “Has he not learnt the last few days by saying things such as ‘Some people don’t deserve to be in F1’ and mocking a reporter, that this doesn’t come across very well. Lance may not be the best driver on the grid but have some decency at least.”
Not everyone was upset, with @chenlando saying: “there's no way people are actually mad at him for this... this app is not real.” @annegelicuh added: “okay lando you're pretty funny! i'll give you that!”
Norris reflects on Singapore GP result
Speaking after the race, Norris said: "I can look at it in two ways. One, it's not a bad result for us. I think P4 is as good as we were going to get.
"I could have done a better job to fight more for the P3, done a better job fighting against Lewis and positioning my car a bit better and not going off and allowing Kimi to come through. Otherwise, a P4 is the best we could achieve today. I'm happy we managed to do that but we want more than what we had today."
He added: "Red Bull seem like the team to beat and have clearly improved the car a lot over the last few weeks, and we've just slipped to the back of the top four. We're the fourth fastest team, which means that if we finished P4 today we still did a good job and overachieved let's say in terms of car result.
"I'm not happy with a P4, I want a podium and we want to fight for wins. We need to keep trying to improve and bringing upgrades to make the car better."
