ITV has confirmed that the James Bond film No Time To Die will replace Van Der Valk in its Sunday night timeslot next weekend. The 2021 film, starring Daniel Craig as 007 for the fifth and final time, is set to air on Sunday, August 23, at 8pm on ITV.
The Amsterdam-set crime drama Van Der Valk airs its third and final feature-length episode of series four this evening, Sunday, August 16, at 8pm on ITV. The future of the show remains unclear, but ITV has already lined up its replacement.
Bond film praised by fans
No Time To Die begins with the retired secret service agent enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica, until an old CIA friend needs his help. The case turns out to be more personal than ever for the super spy, with far-reaching consequences.
Christoph Waltz and Rami Malek, who plays terrorist Lyutsifer Safin, star opposite Craig. Fans have praised the film online, with one writing on IMDb: "This is probably the best Bond. Ever. There is no let-up in the entire film. Beautifully shot, breathtaking scenery, brilliant plot." Another added: "Bond is more impulsive, sensitive and passionate than ever before. Please watch it." A third commented: "It's a perfect ending to a Daniel Craig's James Bond story."
Van Der Valk's final episode
Van Der Valk returned earlier this month for series four after a three-year hiatus, with new feature-length episodes airing over the past weekends. This final instalment sees Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk, played by Marc Warren, investigate the murder of a scientist who appeared to be on the brink of a cancer breakthrough.
There has been no word on a fifth series, but Warren remains hopeful. He told Radio Times: "It's always had good viewing figures, it's always been very well received... and I'd love to do more of it because it's a treat. I can't imagine another job like this coming along. So when it's gone, it's gone – and I'm not ready for it to go."
Van Der Valk is available to stream on ITV and ITVX.
