Dogs return to Welsh beaches as summer bans lifted

From today, pet owners can rejoice as the summertime dog ban on beaches across Wales has been lifted. Dog walkers are restricted from May 1 to September 30 as beaches become the busiest with children and families enjoying the sunshine.

These restrictions are in place at many beaches each year, although there are a number of all-year dog-friendly beaches in Wales. The bye-laws prohibiting dogs from areas of certain beaches exist to protect the interests of bathers in the summer season.

Owners who breach these restrictions face an immediate Fixed Penalty Notice of around £100, however if the matter proceeds to court, this penalty could escalate to £1,000.
