A new Leprechaun movie is on the horizon, with producers Oren Koules and Miles Koules attached to the project. The franchise, which began in 1993, has spawned eight films, and a ninth is reportedly set to hit cinemas soon.
Franchise History
The series follows a bloodthirsty leprechaun who will do anything to get his gold back. Warwick Davis, known for his role in Harry Potter, played the title character in most of the films, except for Leprechaun: Origins and Leprechaun Returns.
Deadline reported that Oren Koules and Miles Koules will produce the new entry through their Koulest Productions banner, with the plot kept under wraps.
Producer's Excitement
Oren Koules told Deadline: "After producing all the Saw films and twenty-three wonderful years at Lionsgate, I’m thrilled to be working again with the Lionsgate team, Patrick and Marcus, and my son, Miles, on a terrifying new way into the rich world of Leprechaun."
At one point, a crossover film titled Candyman vs Leprechaun was planned, following the success of Freddy vs Jason, but it was later shelved.
Warwick Davis's Departure
Warwick Davis previously admitted he stopped playing horror movie roles after becoming a father. He said: "You know what, we did six Leprechaun films and around Halloween people always watch them and love them. Horror is an interesting medium."
"I think it's different when you have kids, you look at horror in a slightly different way. Since I finished the Leprechaun films I had kids and I see the world through their eyes, and to be in a horror movie right now is probably not quite right...I will wait until my son turns 18 and then I'll do some horror again."
